ASD Testing for Children Ages 5-18

Many parents notice differences in the way their child socialises, communicates, manages emotions, copes with change, or experiences the world around them. You may have observed challenges with friendships, sensory sensitivities, emotional regulation, routines, flexibility, or school functioning. Sometimes concerns are raised by parents, teachers, health professionals, or children themselves. An Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessment can help provide greater understanding and clarity around your child’s strengths, needs, and experiences.

For children and adolescents aged 6–18 years, an ASD assessment can provide valuable information to guide support at home, school, and within the broader community. For some families, an assessment may lead to a diagnosis; for others, it can help identify other factors that may be contributing to difficulties and assist with planning the right supports moving forward. Regardless of the outcome, the goal is to better understand your child and help them thrive.

We understand that assessments can feel overwhelming for both children and parents. Our process is designed to be warm, supportive and child-friendly, while also following a structured, evidence-based approach. We take time to understand your child as a whole person—not simply a checklist of symptoms—and aim to make the process as comfortable and informative as possible.

CHILD ASD ASSESSMENT PROCESS

Our child Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessments are completed across several stages to ensure we gather a thorough understanding of your child’s developmental history, strengths, challenges, and current presentation.

Session 1: Initial Clinical Interview (1.5 hours)
A 1.5-hour interview is completed with the child’s parent(s)/caregiver(s) to explore developmental history, current concerns, social functioning, communication patterns, sensory experiences, family context, and relevant background information.

This session helps build a comprehensive picture of your child’s experiences across home, school, and everyday settings.

Session 2: Clinical ASD Assessment (2.5 hours)
Your child attends a 2.5-hour assessment session with the psychologist involving structured assessment activities, observation, and clinical evaluation to better understand their individual presentation.

Session 3: Feedback Session & Outcome Delivery (30 minutes)
Parents attend a 30-minute feedback session (available in person, by phone, or video) to discuss assessment findings and outcomes.

A summarised diagnostic letter outlining the assessment outcome is provided following the session.

Optional add-on:

  • A detailed assessment report, including comprehensive findings and treatment recommendations, can be provided for an additional fee.

  • Where further testing or additional assessment measures are clinically indicated, these can be added at an additional assessment fee.

ASD TESTING FOR ADULTS 18+

Many adults reach a point where they begin wondering whether Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) may help explain experiences they have had throughout their life. You may have noticed ongoing differences in social interactions, communication style, sensory sensitivities, routines, emotional regulation, friendships, relationships, or feeling like you have always experienced the world differently to others. For some people, this question arises after seeing similarities in a child, family member, friend, or through information encountered online or through therapy.

An ASD assessment can provide greater understanding and clarity around your experiences, strengths, and challenges. For some individuals, an assessment may lead to a diagnosis; for others, it can provide helpful insight into factors contributing to difficulties and guide future support, treatment, or self-understanding. Many adults describe the process as helping make sense of experiences they have carried for years and providing a framework that feels validating and meaningful.

We understand that pursuing an assessment can feel like a significant step. Our process is designed to be warm, respectful, and supportive while following a structured, evidence-based approach. We take time to understand your unique experiences and personal history, aiming to provide clarity and practical guidance regardless of the outcome.
