ADHD Testing for Children Ages 5-18

Many parents notice that their child seems to be struggling more than expected with attention, concentration, organisation, emotional regulation, impulsivity, or managing everyday demands. You may notice difficulties sitting still, following instructions, completing schoolwork, managing emotions, maintaining friendships, or staying focused on tasks. Sometimes these concerns are raised by parents, teachers, health professionals, or become more noticeable as academic and social demands increase.

For children and adolescents aged 6–18 years, an ADHD assessment can provide greater understanding and clarity around your child’s strengths, challenges, and learning needs. For some families, an assessment may lead to a diagnosis; for others, it can help identify other factors contributing to difficulties and guide recommendations for support at home, school, and beyond. Regardless of the outcome, the goal is to better understand your child and provide practical pathways forward.

We understand that assessments can feel overwhelming for both children and parents. Our process is designed to be warm, supportive and child-friendly while following a structured, evidence-based approach. We take time to understand your child as a whole person—not simply a list of symptoms.

CHILD ADHD ASSESSMENT PROCESS

Our child ADHD assessments are completed across several stages to ensure we gather a thorough understanding of your child’s developmental history, current functioning, strengths, and presenting concerns.

Session 1 (Initial Clinical Interviews):

A 1.5-hour interview is completed with the child’s parent(s)/caregiver(s) to explore developmental history, current concerns, school functioning, and relevant background information.

Following this session, online questionnaires are sent to parents and teachers for completion prior to Session 2.

Session 2 (Clinical ADHD Assessment):

Your child attends a 2-hour assessment session with the psychologist, involving structured assessment activities, observation, and clinical evaluation.

Session 3 (Delivery of Assessment results):

Parents attend a 30-minute feedback session (available in-person, via phone, or video) to discuss assessment findings and outcomes.

A summarised letter outlining the assessment findings is provided following the session.

Optional add-on:

  • A detailed assessment report, including comprehensive findings and treatment recommendations, can be provided for an additional fee.

  • Where further testing or additional assessment measures are clinically indicated, these can be added at an additional assessment fee.

ADHD TESTING FOR ADULTS 18+

Many adults begin to wonder whether ADHD may help explain lifelong patterns of feeling disorganised, overwhelmed, forgetful, restless, easily distracted, emotionally reactive, or feeling as though everyday tasks require more effort than they seem to for others. Some people have always felt this way; others notice difficulties becoming more apparent as work, relationships, parenting, or life demands increase.

An ADHD assessment can provide greater understanding and clarity around your experiences, strengths, and challenges. For some individuals, an assessment may lead to a diagnosis; for others, it may identify other factors contributing to difficulties and guide future support and treatment options. Many adults describe the process as helping make sense of patterns they have experienced for years and providing a framework that feels validating and practical.

We understand that pursuing an assessment can feel like a significant step. Our process is designed to be warm, respectful, and supportive while following a structured, evidence-based approach. We take time to understand your experiences and personal history with the goal of providing clarity and practical next steps.
